Digital Technology

Digital Technology

The goal of digital technologies within our school is that all of our learners have the opportunity to become digitally capable individuals.

Our focus is on students building their skills throughout their early years, so that they can be innovative creators of digital solutions, moving beyond solely being users and consumers of digital technologies.

Our school is well resourced to facilitate this goal. We have a 1:1 ratio of laptops and Chromebooks in the senior school and a 1:2 ratio of Ipads/Chromebooks in the junior years. This, together with a fast, reliable and robust network and a staff that is motivated to teach computational thinking and designing and developing digital outcomes, ensures that our school is at the forefront of teaching the new digital curriculum.

We also take your students well-being and cyber safety very seriously at the school. Our network is secure and we are able to monitor your child's browsing habits. We are a Netsafe school, frequently run  cyber safety programs and are part of a new pilot scheme for a cyber safety programme being introduced into New Zealand.

We also offer piece of mind to our community by partnering with FamilyZone to provide you with free software and support to help you monitor your child's browsing habits across multiple devices that you may have at home. Please see our FamilyZone link from the home page for more information.

Mindstorms

Robotics

We have several Lego Mindstorms Kits within the school allowing our students to problem solve real world problems using STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths) skills.

We also have Lego WeDo kits for the younger years together with Sphero robots and Mbots that the children learn to code using scratch and other software coding programs.

EPRO8

EPro-8

We also have 2 EPro-8 kits within the school that the students use to problem solve STEAM projects. Each year we enter a team into the EPro8 Challenge, which is an interschool science and engineering competition. With over 10,000 students across 800 teams taking part, we are very proud that we have made the semi-finals for each of the two years that we have entered it.
